Centre of Excellence

Developing countries currently suffer from a lack of skilled researchers in the field of international oceanography. In order to correct this imbalance, we are sending promising young researchers from developing countries for intensive studies at top-level research institutions, in order to give them the skills to enable them to study and control their country's maritime resources, forecast maritime weather and reduce the impact of natural disasters.

In order to facilitate contact and at the same time protect the privacy of the people on this list, we ask that those who wish to contact them use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page to send us your name, email address and a brief message. We will make sure that the fellow receives your message. However, we leave any response up to the individual.

Finally, if you are a fellow and wish to request an update to your data, or if you no longer wish to have it published on our site, please do not hesitate to contact us through the program manager at the institution which runs your program.

PhD. Student
My first participation in an NF-POGO training program was to attend the Visiting Professorship Program in 2007 on Operational Oceanography Training and Development in Tunisia. The second opportunity was to be an NF-POGO scholar at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences participating to the Center of Excellence in Observational Oceanography (2008-2009). The last training was my first research experience, a successful and fruitful one, as since the end of my training period I am working with my NF-POGO research project advisers on publishing our results in a renowned scientific journal. The manuscript title is: Mesoscale eddies enhance zooplankton abundance and carbon export to the deep ocean in the North Western Sargasso Sea.

Marine Ecology, Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) techniques for coastal and marine ecological studies.
I received a BSc. in Biology in 2005 and a MSc. in Ecology Science from the Hue University of Sciences, Vietnam in 2008 and other certificates from international training courses on biodiversity of coastal ecosystems, marine research, and ocean color remote sensing during my last 5 years. I have worked for the Centre of Coastal Management and Development Studies, Hue University of Sciences since 2005. I have also been involved with various projects in coastal and ocean studies, typically such as the Ocean and Coastal: Principle in Practices project funded by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) from December 2004 to February 2009; The Vietnam-Sweden Cooperation Programme on Strengthening Environmental Management and Land Administration (SEMLA) in central Vietnam provinces from August 2007 to June 2009.
With support from the Nippon Foundation, I attended the Nippon Foundation and The Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (NF-POGO) Visiting Professorship program on Ocean Color Remote Sensing in 2007 at Nhatrang Oceanography Institute and NF-POGO Centre of Excellence training on Observation Oceanography at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science from August 2009 to May 2010.
