The Sasakawa International Scholarship is a partial-tuition program that The Nippon Foundation has established at Gallaudet University. This program is for deaf exchange students from developing countries who have met the entrance requirements of Gallaudet University, but who do not possess the financial means to attend.

| Personal Profile | Mr. Olawepo comes to Gallaudet University from Lagos, Nigeria, where he attended the Federal College of Education. He has not yet declared a major but has a strong interest in computers. Mr. Olawepo's other interests include reading, traveling, and playing soccer and basketball. His future goals are to graduate with a degree in computer information systems and teach younger students. |

| Personal Profile | Ms. Palacio is from Bogota, Columbia, and now resides in Silver Spring, Maryland. She came to the United States hoping to receive her bachelor's degree and to someday become a world-renowned professional tennis player. With the social work degree she is pursing at Gallaudet, she plans to help disadvantaged people. |

| Personal Profile | A native of Karachi, Pakistan, Mr. Jaffer is a Dean's List graphic design major at Gallaudet. This well-rounded student has won awards for outstanding art, ping pong, and academic achievement. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and listening to music. He is looking forward to working in the field of computer graphics. |

| Personal Profile | Raised in Venezuela, Mr. Piedrahita moved to New York and attended the Lexington School for the Deaf in high school. During his time there, he earned the Betty Nower Scholar-Athlete Award three years in a row and was featured in Who's Who Among American High School Students. He was also involved in the Junior National Association of the Deaf and the Outdoor Club as well as performing the duties of a class officer. As a first year student in 2003-04, Mr. Piedrahita was deliberating between studying education and business. |

| Personal Profile | Mr. Zhang comes to Gallaudet University from Fuzhou, China. He is currently a Dean's List student majoring in graphic design and computer information systems. In his spare time, he enjoys learning the history of different cultures, traveling, and writing. He would like to use his computer programming skills to develop a curriculum to teach deaf people interested in computer technology fields. |

| Personal Profile | Ms. Chang comes to Gallaudet from Taiwan. Skilled in several languages, she is the three-time winner of a Chinese language essay-writing contest and loves to read. At Gallaudet, she is studying both accounting and graphic design. In the future, she would like to become an English teacher and help teach the language to deaf people in Taiwan. |

| Personal Profile | Ms. Cai is from Beijing, China where she attended the Beijing High School for the Deaf and Changchun University. She is currently studying graphic design and mathematics. Ms. Cai is a Dean's List student and has won three consecutive Student of the Year awards in college. Athletically, she is a champion javelin and discus thrower. Ms. Cai hopes to go on to study deaf education, which she hopes to use to teach deaf students in China. She also aspires to create an educational bridge between the United States and her home country. |

Very active in co-curricular activities, she is a member of the Asian-Pacific Association and has served as president of the English Language Institute Student Organization. She would like to go on to earn a graduate degree in education and teach high school mathematics. |

| Personal Profile | Originally from Argentina, Ms. Simon earned a degree in psychology from the University of Buenos Aires. She is now pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology at Gallaudet, where she is a Dean's List student and a former President's Scholar. Ms. Simon devotes her spare time to working for advocacy organizations and reading. She plans to return to Argentina to teach, open a psychology practice that will serve deaf clients, and continue her research. |

At Gallaudet, he is now majoring in graphic design and taking courses through the University's English Language Institute. He enjoys art and design, reading, and playing cricket and soccer. Mr. Khanna has received recognition for his involvement with the English Language Institute Student Organization at Gallaudet. In the future, he wants to dedicate his life to working for the betterment of the deaf community and humanity in any way that he can. |

Her educational background includes attendance at the First Military Medical University and the Guanzhou High School for the Deaf. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, traveling, and reading. She has received awards for academic excellence in her home country and been recognized for outstanding service in ELISO at Gallaudet. She looks forward to graduating, returning to Slovakia, and providing support to other young people who want to do the same. |

She dreams of empowering people from South Africa and other countries by helping them to develop professional skills. |
