Call for steps to wipe out leprosy

HYDERABAD, Dec. 7.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) Special Ambassador for
Elimination of Leprosy, Yohei Sasakawa, has called for sustained
efforts to spread awareness on leprosy and for eradication of
social discrimination of those affected with the ailment.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Sasakawa, who is
also president of The Nippon Foundation, said the discrimination
issue was brought to the notice of the United Nations and efforts
were on to declare it as violation of human rights.
