"Conference on leprosy eradication"

Chennai, May 12

A regional conference on leprosy would be held on 15 and 16 May in
the city with the support of Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation,
Japan, said a press release. The southern regional conference
would discuss the present situation of leprosy in India and the
measures to be taken for the socioeconomic rehabilitations,
general problems and legal situations which discriminate against
leprosy affected people.

According to the release, the conference would be attended by
Central Government officials, state level leprosy officers of the
southern states, NGOs, Medical professionals, leprosy cured
persons and others.

Thalavai Sundaram, Tamilnadu Minister for health would inaugurate
the conference. Yohei Sasakawa, president, Nippon foundation and
the World Health Organization's (WHO) goodwill amb assador for
leprosy elimination woul dbe the chief guest at the function. Dr
Dhillion, deputy director general, government of India Health
Services (Leprosy) will also participate. For details, contact
