Special Welfare Vehicles For Peru

Thanks to some creative thinking on the part of Nippon Foundation staff members, many old and handicapped people in Peru will soon have the advantage of being transported comfortably in specially designed welfare vehicles for the disabled and people in wheel chairs. The Foundation has identified 132 such special welfare vehicles that are now being under-used or not used at all throughout Japan, and will ship them cost free to Peru to be distributed to needy hospitals and welfare organizations in that country. These specialized vehicles were already donated in their first incarnation by the Foundation to welfare groups around Japan, and through good practical thinking about how to best use resources at hand they were identified as a valuable recyclable donation to Peru.

These recycled welfare vehicles will fill a gap in Peru to transport the disabled and elderly. At present there are too few such vehicles operating in the country, or they are in short supply. These special vehicles are equipped with backdoor lifters for people in wheelchairs, and wide side doors for easy entry and exit for the handicapped.
In Japan these welfare vehicles were no longer being used, or are being replaced with advanced models. It is expected that the recycled vehicles will give some relief to the under-supplied Peruvian health system.
The vehicles will be distributed to hospitals and welfare organizations by the Peruvian-Japanese Association.
