Are We All Having Fun Yet?
What is the most important thing about your job other than the money?
It has to be fun, interesting, and stimulating, according to the answers received from a nationwide survey conducted by The Nippon Foundation.
A questionnaire was sent out to a sample of 1,000 internet users, posing questions centering around the idea “What is a truly happy way of working?”
The main results were as follows:
It is clear that many people put a lot of emphasis on the work environment, and a diversity of values associated with their jobs.
Asked what was more important about their job than the money, 54% replied that the work had to be interesting, fun, and stimulating.
One question asked in general terms about what made people happy working for their company. 37.5% replied that it was related to fair compensation.
76.5% of those polled who were working for companies said they do not participate in any community activities or philanthropic, volunteer work.
A strong impression made by this survey was that a company employee’s happiness depends strictly on how interesting his work is, and whether he is getting rewarded enough for the work he/she does.

In other words, those surveyed put themselves first, while community activities or volunteer work were considered less important.
The survey results were based on answers from 537 males, and 463 females from a nationwide sample.
Additionally, 23.6% felt happy knowing they were the only ones that could do a certain job in their company, and 22.9% said they were happy learning new skills and expertise.
