For the Elimination of Leprosy

Yohei Sasakawa, the chairman of our foundation, is WHO's Goodwill Ambassador for the Leprosy Elimination. As a part of his effort, he publishes a newsletter about the progress of leprosy elimination activities around the world. Issue 39 (August, 2009) is now available and has been reproduced here on our website.

With this publication, Ambassador Sasakawa is aiming to reach experts, public figures, the media and the general public with the truth about leprosy. That it is curable. That it is not frightening. That treatment is available for free. That discrimination has no place in our world today.

This newsletter is published six times a year and includes not only factual articles about organizations and movements, but also many stories about people working in the field, people who have been affected by leprosy, and people who have made a difference in the lives of those around them.
