In 2006, The Nippon Foundation, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, the Tokyo Foundation and related organizations began a new initiative aimed at uniting alumni from their various scholarship and fellowship program in an effort to create a network of people who will seek new and creative paths into Asia’s future.
The program takes the form of an 8-day retreat held twice each year, each time bringing together 20 different future leaders who have both received educational funding from one of the organizations in the past, and who share a passion to help Asia develop in the best possible ways.

To date, the organizations involved in the initiative boast a total of nearly 30,000 scholars and fellows, and many of these have gone on to become leaders at levels from the local to the national. It is thought that by bringing these bright young people from various fields and backgrounds into close contact with each other, creative solutions can be found to the challenges faced by the region.
The theme for the 2009-10 retreats is “Building the Common Good in Asia.” Discussion will focus poverty, human security, sustainable development, common security, globalization, capacity building and efficient governance.
The program of events for this upcoming retreat, to be held at Peking University, is attached below.
