100 Books for Understanding Contemporary Japan

European Deadline: November 30, 2009

The Nippon Foundation has become aware that in many countries there is a lack of understanding of the true face of contemporary Japan.

To help correct this, the Foundation has produced a catalog detailing 100 carefully selected books in English about contemporary Japan. Libraries are encouraged to apply for any books on this list that would help to improve their Japanese Studies section.

We are now inviting applications from libraries in Europe. University and public libraries that will be able to make the selection available to a wider readership will be given priority. Libraries interested in applying are kindly requested to send the following documents by email to The Nippon Foundation at the address provided below by November 30, 2009.

  1. Cover letter, on letterhead, in PDF
  2. Application form
  3. Book checklist (Please mark the titles you would like on the list.)

We hope to be able to announce the results of applications by the end of December, 2009.

Please note that while The Nippon Foundation will be responsible for the purchase of books and shipping expenses, all other related expenses (customs fees, taxes, etc.) incurred in the destination country will be borne by the recipient institution.
