Applications being accepted for 2010 SIRC fellowship

The Seafarers International Research Center at Cardiff University (United Kingdom) is inviting applications for four-year PhD fellowships in the field of maritime-related social science. Fellowships are available to graduates in the maritime or social science fields who have a strong desire to pursue academic research on seafarers and the human aspect of the maritime world.

The Seafarers International Research Center, or SIRC, is internationally renowned for its unique work at the forefront of this emerging discipline. Successful candidates will take part in a one-year Social Science Research Methods program before continuing on to their dissertation. Course fees and a generous living/travel allowance will be provided.

While applications may be made by residents of any country, individuals from developing countries, from Asia and from Japan are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants are expected to hold an honors degree in the social sciences or a maritime discipline. Those for whom English is a second language will be required to have achieved a minimum of a 7 on the IELTS or a 600 on the TOEFL.
