High-level Meeting of the 68th Session of the General Assembly: Disability and Development

The United Nations General Assembly held the High-level Meeting on Disability and Development on September 23, 2013 in New York. The Nippon Foundation supported the following activities:

  1. Outcome Documents in Accessible Multimedia Formats
    The Nippon Foundation, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and Assistive Technology Development Organization (ATDO) collaborated to produce the official outcome documents of the High-level Meeting on Disability and Development in various accessible multimedia formats which ensure informational support for people with disabilities. The outcome documents are available here.
  2. Side Event – “Special Event on Disaster and Disability: Lessons from Japan”
    In cooperation with the Japan Disability Forum, the Nippon Foundation organized the Special Event on Disaster and Disability: Lessons from Japan, a side event to the High-level Meeting. Details of the event are available here on the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction’s (UNISDR) website.
  3. Side Event – “Assistive Technology to Open the Doors”
    Mr. Shuichi Ohno, Executive Director of the Nippon Foundation, was invited to speak at How Assistive Technology Opens Doors, a side event to the High-level Meeting; this was a partnership event with WHO, Cambodia Trust and the Nippon Foundation.
