UN University for Peace Asian Peacebuilders Scholarship (Full Scholarship)Accepting Applications for 10th Term (Beginning 2016; Deadline for Submission – August 28, 2015)

With Asia having experienced many conflicts and disputes of various types in recent years, the Nippon Foundation has been supporting the Asian Peacebuilders Scholarship (APS; formerly the Asia Leaders Programme (ALP)). This dual-degree Master of Arts program in international peace studies is offered by the UN University for Peace (UPEACE, based in Costa Rica) and Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU, the Philippines), and seeks to cultivate human resources who are both knowledgeable with respect to Asia and have expertise in peacebuilding. The program lasts 21 months, with English lessons and coursework at AdMU, additional coursework at UPEACE, and a field project in the Philippines. Students completing the dual-degree program will receive two master’s degrees, one each from UPEACE and AdMU, under the two universities’ mutual credit partnership. Applicants should be nationals of Japan or a Southeast Asian country, and have at least two years of professional experience after graduating from university. All participants will receive a full scholarship, covering tuition, travel costs, living expenses, etc. Taking advantage of the program’s locations in Costa Rica and the Philippines, there are a variety of opportunities to volunteer in the field near the campuses outside of class hours. APS includes students from Japan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Laos, and the UPEACE campus is also home to students from Africa, South America, Europe, and North America, creating an attractive environment for studying with an international flavor. A total of 194 students have completed the program over the seven terms to date, and now work for the United Nations, international agencies, government agencies, and NGOs. We are currently accepting applications for 30 students for the 10th term. Please apply online to UPEACE by Friday, August 28, 2015.
