The Nippon Foundation, together with Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI), has launched its Global Appeal 2018, for the elimination of social prejudice against people affected by leprosy, from New Delhi, India.
The Nippon Foundation and DPI share the common goal of creating an inclusive society in which the human rights of all persons are respected, and all people can participate. The two organizations are working with persons affected by leprosy to promote a correct understanding of the disease, and to ensure that the human rights of persons affected by leprosy and their families are respected.
The Global Appeal, calling for the elimination of social prejudice against people affected by leprosy, is issued to coincide with World Leprosy Day, which is observed on the last Sunday of January. Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of The Nippon Foundation, WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination, and Japanese Government Goodwill Ambassador for the Human Rights of Persons Affected by Leprosy, has issued a Global Appeal every year since 2006, with the endorsement of Nobel Peace Prize laureates, religious leaders, and other persons and organizations involved in health, human rights, and public policy.
