Announcement of Closing of Donations for Response to 2018 Flooding in Western Japan

The heavy rain that struck western Japan from July 5, 2018, caused severe damage over a widespread area, with more than 200 people listed as dead or missing and more than 50,000 buildings damaged or destroyed.

The Nippon Foundation began accepting donations specifically for this disaster relief via the Special Fund for Disaster Preparedness on July 9, and stopped accepting donations on October 31.

The fund received 2,732 donations totaling 107,103,617 yen (as of October 31), and this is being used to provide swift emergency relief and support for reconstruction in accordance with the needs of the areas that suffered damage.

The Nippon Foundation has established the Special Fund for Disaster Preparedness to be able to provide emergency relief in the event of large-scale damage from a major disaster like an earthquake striking directly below a large urban center or in the Nankai Trough off Japan’s Pacific coast. The Fund has received contributions from many people, and we ask for your continued cooperation.
