Closure of ROAD Project Fund for Great East Japan Earthquake Relief

The Nippon Foundation is closing the ROAD Project Fund for Great East Japan Earthquake Relief, which was established to support the recovery of areas damages by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the tsunami that struck northeastern Japan in March 2011.

Established immediately after the earthquake and tsunami, the Fund received donations totaling 2,974,014,656 yen from donors in Japan and overseas. The fund was used to provide grants and support individual programs both large and small, to meet the needs of the areas that were damaged. The entire amount of the fund was used to support these activities, with no administrative costs paid to the Foundation. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the fund.

Separately, The Nippon Foundation has established the Special Fund for Disaster Preparedness to be able to provide emergency support quickly when large-scale disasters strike in the future, from a private-sector perspective and using the first-hand knowledge and lessons learned through our support for recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake. The fund is accepting donations to enable the Foundation to provide support that closely meets people’s needs immediately, rather than collecting donations after a disaster strikes. We ask for your continued support through this fund.
