Awareness Survey of 18-Year-Olds

Awareness Survey of 18-Year-Olds

The Public Offices Election Act was revised in 2015 to lower Japan’s voting age to 18 from 20, making people aged 18 and 19 newly eligible to vote from the following year’s national election. Revisions to the Civil Code also lowered the age of adulthood to 18 for certain activities effective April 2022.

The Nippon Foundation has been conducting internet surveys of young people around the age of 18 continuously since 2018 on the theme of “What do young people think and believe.”

Our aim is to help to create a new society by gaining a broad understanding of the thinking and awareness of 18-year-olds, who represent society’s next generation, regarding things like politics, society, work, family, friends, and love. The Nippon Foundation will use the results of these surveys in our activities to address a range of social issues.

Each survey will be on a topic selected from a variety of perspectives including newspapers, love and marriage, and work, and the results will be made publicly available.
