Many problems like poverty, famine, disease, and armed conflict are regional or global issues that transcend national boundaries. The lives, livelihoods, and dignity of people in developing countries are especially threatened.

Given the difficulty of solving these problems by the affected countries on their own, the countries, international institutions, private-sector companies, NGOs, and other organizations that make up the international community need to work together to deploy their respective strengths and specializations.

We work with various stakeholders around the world to address the diverse problems facing humanity.

What We Do

  • We work around the world to eradicate leprosy as a public health threat and to do away with the stigma and discrimination associated with the disease.
  • From April 2016, we have been entrusted by the Japanese government with the operation of the National Hansen’s Disease Museum and the Jyu-Kanbo National Museum of Detention for Hansen's Disease Patients.
  • We provide aid for and take part in educational, cultural, and other projects around the world to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.
  • Through the Sasakawa Africa Association, we provide technical guidance, fertilizers, and seeds to create a value chain that boosts yields and increases the incomes of smallholder farmers.
  • Actively using traditional medicines is one way to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for people living far from healthcare centers.
  • Our activities in Myanmar began in 1976 with medical support for persons affected by leprosy, and most recently have focused on peace-building initiatives.
