The Nippon Foundation Diversity in the Arts International Art Competition52 Works to be displayed at Shibuya’s Bunkamura Gallery until June 5

The Nippon Foundation’s Diversity in the Arts project aims to convey the significance and value of diversity, with a focus on artistic activities by persons with disabilities. As part of this project, 52 works that have been selected from among 2,150 entries submitted from Japan and overseas will be displayed as The Nippon Foundation Diversity in the Arts International Art Competition at Bunkamura Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo, until June 5. Admission is free.

BiG-i, an international communication center for persons with disabilities established in Yokohama, Japan, in 2001, has been holding art competitions since 2011. The 2017 competition received a record 2,150 entries, including 411 entries from overseas. From these entries, 52 works were selected for exhibition, with 43 of these works coming from Japan and 9 from five other countries: the Netherlands, Canada, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong. This year, The Nippon Foundation is exhibiting these works as part of its Diversity in the Arts project. The exhibition opened on May 15 at the Yokohama Rapport Sports & Cultural Center for the Disabled, and moved to Tokyo on May 23. The works will be on display at the Bunkamura Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo, until June 5.
