Outline of Activities

The primary purpose of the Sasakawa Sports Foundation is the promotion of “Sport for Everyone,” an international movement that encourages involvement in sports for the general populace, regardless of natural ability or experience.

The foundation actively supports Sport for Everyone by providing financial aid to Japanese sports clubs and organizations, developing a sports information network, and campaigning to promote public awareness of the importance of sports.

Major recent initiatives have included Japan’s largest open-water swim, and the recruitment and training of all volunteers needed to hold the Tokyo Marathon. In addition, it coordinates Japan’s Challenge Day, an international event in which municipalities compete to have the largest number of people take part in athletics.
